this is what i get for clicking through

please take a look at this politico article, headlined “Dems reject amendment to ban Viagra for sex offenders.”

know what’s not mentioned, anywhere in the article? this particular provision of the amendment:

No Erectile Dysfunction Drugs To Sex Offenders – This amendment would enact recommendations from the Government Accountability Office to stop fraudulent payments for prescription drugs prescribed by dead providers or, to dead patients. This amendment also prohibits coverage of Viagra and other ED medications to convicted child molesters, rapists, and sex offenders, and prohibits coverage of abortion drugs. [emphasis mine]

look, i ain’t exactly a fan of max baucus, but he was right to call this a shameless manipulation of the senate process. republicans just want to be able to say that dems voted against this. good job, politico, for playing that game for them.

also, if you want to maintain any sanity at all, never, ever read the comments on politico.

It’s not just Politico, it’s any website that shows up on memeorandum or google news. And I know, right? I see shit in those comment sections that makes me weep for humanity. Some of them are paid employees of the political parties and various PR firms but that doesn’t account for nearly enough of the comments to make me any more hopeful.

On the subjects of the amendments, it isn’t just that. It’s like political theater squared. In addition to being full of embarassing-sounding shit that’l get turned into attacks ads this fall, any amendments to the reconciliation bill mean it goes back to the House and they have to vote on it again (like what already happened when the parliamentarian ruled against the Dems over some typo in the SAFRA portion of the bill or some shit). It’s a crunchy campaign stunt shell with a creamy obstructionist center!

I guess this means the politico article represents failure to the second power?

And speaking of comment sections and whatnot (yeah, I couldn’t resist taking a look) what’s the deal with the overreliance on stupidass grade-school name-calling? Demoncrats and Nancy Pelousy and John Boner and Rethuglicans… oh my! Do these people think they’re witty? Is this something they hear on talk radio? Are they just incredibly immature?

Am I answering my own question?
