A couple key quotes from the NYT, as pointed out by a poster in comments of that Jezebel article:
Annual out-of-pocket medical costs will be capped at $5,950 for individuals and $11,900 for families.
This is the cap for high-risk people who join the high-risk pools that are being set up immediately as a result of this legislation.
And if you would pay more than 8 percent of your income for the cheapest available plan, you will not be penalized for failing to buy coverage.
The mandates don’t take effect til 2014, so there’s plenty of time for people to do the maths and freak out on their congresspeople if this is going to be an excessive burden. Whether people will get active on pushing for the changes they want and whether the congressbots listen are the key questions.
