Is it just me or does this this kind of petty shit-talking by companies who’ve routinely underperformed Google just make them look nervous? Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention but going negative seems to be increasingly popular as an advertising tactic and it isn’t any less obnoxious than it is in political ads. (I guess it isn’t accurate to describe this as a case of advertising but I’m thinking of stuff like AT+T/Verizon’s little fight over ‘maps’, etc.) Come to think of it maybe it’s not so much new as modified, cuz it seems like they’re more willing to go after each other by name. I remember back in the day commercials used to contrast stuff like ‘Hefty hefty hefty!’ against the ‘Wimpy’ generic competitor.
